Recent and Exemplary Cases

  • The firm represented four families who lost loved ones in the tragic fire at the NHC Nashville nursing home. The cases were challenging and complicated due to the volume of evidence relating to NHC's past conduct and actions on the night of the fire. The cases were resolved with a Confidentiality agreement in place.

 

  • The firm represented multiple claimants as a result of negligent injuries to nursing home residents in Albany, Georgia. Each case was resolved after extensive discovery efforts to bring the negligent conduct to light. One case involved the choking death of a resident who was ordered to receive a pureed diet. She choked on a 4 inch piece of roast beef. Another case involved a drop from a wheelchair during transfer that resulted in a broken leg. The injury was not treated promptly and caused severe pain for several weeks. Another case involved the failure to check and address impaction of a resident. The resident's bowel ruptured causing her death.

 

  • In Rome, Georgia, the firm represented the surviving wife of a gentleman who suffered 26 bedsores as a result of the negligence of a nursing home. The gentleman was in so much pain that the emergency room staff thought it was a sound machine playing ghost tracks as he was admitted on Oct. 31. The nursing home paid a substantial sum to resolve this claim.

 

  • In 2001, the firm concluded a lawsuit against NHC Fort Oglethorpe on behalf of 16 residents or deceased residents for system-wide abuse. The home had failed to provide care to numerous residents resulting in injury or death. The suit lasted approximately 3 years as extensive discovery
